The Royals striker started again for his country in the weekend friendly with Scotland, upfront with Ched Evans of Sheffield Utd, and he scored the second goal in a convincing win. The other Welsh goals were scored by David Edwards and a superb individual goal by Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey.

Church is now a regular in the full Welsh set up, and scoring his first goal at this level clearly delighted the striker, especially as it was his first game at the Cardiff’s new Stadium. He told the Reading Post, ‘It was nice to get it out of the way, It’s been playing on my mind a bit, wondering when it was going to come. And it was great that when I did get it, it was in Wales and at the new stadium.’

A busy international week doesn’t end there for Church, he will now head to Bosnia-Herzegovina for a qualifier with the Under 21’s. In fact half of the Wales squad on duty on Saturday in Cardiff are part of Bryan Flynn’s under 21 squad that head to Sarajevo!
