Following the recent events in London, Charlton Athletic have been advised by Greenwich police to postpone tonight’s game amid of safety concerns.

The game was due to take place tonight, kicking off at 7.45pm but the police took the decision to postpone the game on the basis that it could have been potentially dangerous to get to and from.

Charlton’s chief executive Stephen Kavanagh said: ‘Clearly the most important factor is the people’s safety. The police have told us they believe the match should be postponed on safety grounds and obviously we have taken that advice.’

Other footballing events have been cancelled in and around London such as:

– West Ham v Aldershot (Carling Cup)

Bristol City v Swindon (Carling Cup)

Crystal Palace v Crawley (Carling Cup)

England v Netherlands (International)

A new date for these games have yet to be confirmed but will be considered in the near future.
