Reading have been very disappointing in their last two Premiership matches, losing both 3-0 to Bolton and then West Ham. No one has been angrier than captain Graeme Murty, who is looking for the team to improve.
Murty told readingfc.co.uk, ‘We need to be better than that, all the way through from 1 to 11.
“We know that, and the manager had a few home truths to say to a few people, so they have to be big enough and strong enough to take it on the chin.
“We have let in six goals in two games so that is a point proved. I think we have conceded goals when we haven’t been playing poorly in the game.
“We are renowned for our team spirit and our unity and now it’s the time for us to prove it to ourselves and to everyone else.
“It’s not the measure of the man when you go down, it’s the measure of the man if you get back up or not and I think historically this team has been very good at that.’
“The measure of the team is how we come back. We know we have to improve and we know the areas we need to do that.
“There will be a hell of a lot of work taking place on the training pitch to put that right.”
Everyone has been disappointed with the last two matches, defeats you can accept, but the manor of both, with Reading soundly, and deservingly beaten in both is what has disappointed the most.
But as Murty has said plenty of work will be going on on the training ground to rectify things, and how Reading come back from these set backs is how they can really be judged.
Sunderland will be a big test, but a test Reading will have to pass in a week and a half, which I think they can.
