The Royals have pulled out of a deal to sign Plymouth striker Bradley Wright Phillips after a medical revealed a suspected knee injury. The former Southampton and Manchester City striker had agreed personnal terms and was set top sign until the plug was pulled after midnight on Tuesday.

Director of Football Nick Hammond, who had been working hard to secure the deal, told GetReading,

‘We are disappointed as Bradley is a fantastic young man, but there are currently some medical issues that prevent us from completing the deal at this time.’

The news will be disappointing to Royals fans who had hoped to see the striker sign in time to play against Doncaster on Saturday. However we don’t want to sign an injured player so best to pull out of the deal, however difficult that may be.

Plymouth will also be annoyed as they are in deep financial trouble and desperate to off load their star striker but news of an underlying knee injury will surely put pay to any deal being done with another club this January.
