When Tyler Blackett left Manchester United to sign for Reading in the summer he would have hoped to one day return to Old Trafford – perhaps as a player for them even – but I doubt he would have expected it to come so soon.

This will happen though as Blackett will be part of the Reading squad looking to beat his former club and book a place in the draw for round four on Monday.

Blackett has told the Official Website he felt it was perhaps meant to be that Reading would face Man United with Royals boss Jaap Stam – as we know – a former United player too.

‘It was fantastic to see the draw come out of the hat and I think it`s going to be a good game. It was almost something that seemed written in the stars especially with the manager that is here now, it was something that I had thought about and now it`s happened.’

This experience of Old Trafford isn’t new to Blackett of course but it will be to many of the Reading squad.

He added the most important thing is we treat it as any other game but knows the Royals will certainly be ready to compete.

‘It will be a big occasion for quite a few of the team. To have played there when I was young and to play for the first team is something which I will always remember. We`ve got to look at it the same as we do in every game. We`ll look to go up there and compete and do the right stuff on the pitch.’

As for his time at the Madejski Stadium so far the 22 year old defender said he’s been enjoying this with a change of environment – along with the challenge of the Championship – proving beneficial.

Stam’s impact on his game is also benefiting him with Blackett finishing by saying the boss always has time for players on a one-one-one basis, which is certainly something he appreciates.

‘I`m enjoying Reading, it`s been a different step and I`m just trying to improve in the first team environment. The gaffer is obviously really well known at Man United and he`s been really good for me as a defender, he talks to us a lot and explains to us one-on-one how and what we need to improve on. There are many different things we can learn from him and he`s been a big help for me so far.’

The time for talking is just about over isn’t it with kick off a little over two hours away now!
