It has been agreed that Ian Porterfield, who sadly passed away on Tuesday will be marked at this weekends Reading match with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light by a minutes applause.

Porterfield who is a Sunderland legend, also played for and managed Reading for a brief spell, so to show their respect to the man who lost his fight to Colon Cancer this week in addition to the applause both sides will wear black armbands.

A book of condolence has been opened by Sunderland, it can be signed here

  • It was a real shame to lose such a fine man, again my condolences go to his family. He will be honoured in a brilliant way this weekend.

  • Without doubt merlin, this I can agree with you on, even if I might not everything you say. Such a sad loss for football, but most importantly his family.
