Reading winger Michail Antonio has said he is hoping he gets a chance to prove himself in the Premier League.

The 22-year old’s loan at League One side Sheffield Wednesday has come to an end, but reports have stated that the Owls are keen to keep Antonio, launching a £350k bid to achieve this. However, this approach is believed to have been turned down by Brian McDermott, who is looking for a figure around the £700,000 mark.

Antonio said: ‘I’m definitely keen to take the next step at Reading and I do feel that I’ve developed my game further whilst at Sheffield Wednesday. I feel that I have proven myself in League One now, but I also feel that I can play at a higher level and if someone takes a chance on me and gives me the opportunity I can show people that.’

‘I’ve obviously got the stature of being a Premier League player now, which is great, but at the same time I don’t feel that I’ve earned it. I was in and out of the side before I went to Sheffield Wednesday, so although I have contributed to Reading’s campaign I don’t feel that I have done enough to call myself a Premier League player.’

The former Tooting and Mitcham winger started the season on loan at Colchester United, before returning to the Madejski Stadium to make two starts, while Jimmy Kebe was struggling with injury. With the likes of Jobi McAnuff, Jimmy Kebe, Garath McCleary and Hal Robson-Kanu all in front of Antonio in the pecking order, a move away from Berkshire could be on the cards.

I think he will move on, stating that “I also feel that I can play at a higher level and if someone takes a chance on me and gives me the opportunity I can show people that.” just seems to me to suggest that he is after someone to make an offer for him

Yeah, I still think he will move to Wednesday on a permanent.
