Reading owner Anton Zingarevich has revealed that plans to expand the stadium will be resubmitted, after the original plans expired.

The Russian tycoon has entered his second year in English football and has seen an incredible rise over the past year. Plans to expand the stadium were talked about back in 2007, but relegation to the Championship derailed these ideas, but the process has been relighted with Zingarevich willing to spend his millions.

Speaking to the Reading Post, Anton said: ‘We need to put a new planning application in because the current one expired and that will take a year or so to plan and get. The last project that we did was a number of years ago so we want to make sure what we are thinking is current in terms of engineering and all the possibilities we have.’

‘If we do do it then it will probably be the East Stand first then the North and South. We need to think about the engineering and the lay-out as well. The corporate base will help us sell hospitality if we do well on the pitch. It will obviously take time to get the planning permission, but hopefully we can start at the end of next season.’

Anton didn’t hint at whether these would take place if we were relegated, but common sense would say we wouldn’t if we were to go back down. We are doing relatively well at selling out at the moment, but could we attract 38,000 in over a years time? I doubt it. Certain schemes need to be introduced to attract a larger number of supporters.
