Reading goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen has signed a new three-and-a-half year deal with the club, that will keep him at the Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2015.

The news comes after fellow stopper Alex McCarthy signed a new deal with the club, but with the England U21 international going out on loan, it has pushed Andersen up the pecking order for the number one jersey.

Director of Football Nicky Hammond told the official RFC site: ‘We are delighted with this signing. Mikkel has already proven himself to be an outstanding young goalkeeper, and if he continues to show the same attitude and work ethic, he has got a very, very bright future.’

The 23-year old is a former Denmark U21 international and has gained many plaudits over the globe for his performance in the 2010 Toulon tournament, where he won the goalkeeper of the tournament. This also gained interest from many European sides.

Andersen is yet to make an appearance for the Royals and has been shipped out on loan to the lower leagues on numerous occasions. The most successful coming at Bristol Rovers over as year ago, where he made 58 appearances in total.
