Age concern!

Silver fox, Andy Griffin, has always been regarded as one of the golden oldies in the Royals side since he first joined up in January. With the likes of Simon Church and Jem Karacan coming through the academy at the Madejski Stadium, and a number of other young players in the ranks you could forgive him for being a little excited when Ian Harte and Lee Hendrie joined the ranks.

Both players are 33 and have long careers under their belts, and Griffin see’s that as a positive as we gear up for Saturdays home game with Crystal Palace. He told the Reading Post,

‘We`ve added plenty of experience and some people have come in, who are a little bit older than me, which is nice!’

He feels the mix of youth and experience will hold us in good sted for the rest of the season, despite the loss of Gylfi Sigurdsson.

‘We`ve got a young team and if you can find that blend of youth and experience it`s usually a good recipe for success.’

He did admit though that he allows the youngsters to win in the ‘old vs young’ training ground matches!

‘I think we`ve got to let the younger guys win, as the older guys, we have to help boost their confidence.’

Lee Hendrie looks like he should be playing with the youngster, whilst Griffin looks like he should have retired! And Hendrie is 2 years older!
