Here are five things we learnt from Reading’s latest win;

1. John Swift is a fine player

Swift put in another outstanding performance. It’s easy to see why Chelsea offered the midfielder a contract. John is such a steal on a free transfer and he will be a big player this season.

2. Van Den Berg at centre back

There have been cries saying how we are desperate for a centre back, but Van Den Berg is filling this position exceptionally. The Dutchman is an absolute rock and is also very calm on the ball. Another great signing.

3. We still lack a striker

Yann struggled on Tuesday night. His movement isn’t great and he’s not that poacher sort of striker you need at this level. If we snap up someone who will score us 25-30 goals this season we’ll be right up there.

4. Our wingers look the real deal

Before the transfer window, Mccleary was our only real winger. Now Stam has bought in Beerens, Meite and Harriot and they look class. We will be causing some full backs all sorts of problems this year if they continue this form.

5. The start has got everyone excited

A lot of fans were pessimistic about this season. An unproven manager, a couple of our main players leaving and signing people we’ve not heard of. However, two dominant performances have changed the mood in the mad stad. I really am looking forward to the season ahead.
