3 players we should, and could, sign!

Brendan Rodgers has been slow to add ot his squad this summer, so here is some advise for our new manager! 3 players we could easily sign this summer, within our budget and would strengthen our squad considerably.

James McArthur (Hamilton)

Now don`t get confused here, I am not talking about the Hamilton wonder kid James McCarthy who has just joined Wigan, but his former team mate with the very similar name! The midfielder, who can play on the wing or in the middle, came through the ranks at New Douglas Park and now is currently vice captain despite being just 21, and also won the Scottish First division player of the year award when ‘Accies` were promoted in 2007/2008. He has taken to the SPL with ease and scored a cracking goal last season at Ibrox against Rangers. I reckon it would take a bid of under £1million to secure the signature of this lad, and many Hamilton fans think he is vastly under rated and possibly a better all round player than McCarthy.

Zak Whitbread (Millwall)

American centre back Whitbread started his career at Liverpool, and made his debut for them against Millwall in the league Cup 2005 and scored. However there were very few oppurtunities at Anfield and he moved to the New Den in 2006 and has established himself as one of the best defender`s in League One. Has a year to run on his contract and is refusing to sign a new deal, so is available and would be a welcome addition to our back line.

Jermaine Beckford (Leeds)

Another player with only a year to run on his contract is Leeds striker Beckford, who is also refusing a new deal. He was put on the transfer list this summer but has since been taken off with the Yorkshire club happy to let him run the contract down, similar to what Steve Sidwell did a few years ago. However a bid in excess of £750,000 would be enough to secure his services and would be worth any Championship clubs money. He will guarantee you goals at this level, is the target man that we need and is desperate to step up to this level, at the very least. It is also a little known fact that we had Beckford on trial a few years back when he was still at Wealdstone, he played twice for our reserves.
